How A Repair Quote Is Built
Every honest quote has the same three ingredients: the parts your specific door needs, the labour time the job genuinely takes, and whether you are asking for it at 10 a.m. Tuesday or 1 a.m. Sunday. Anything else in the number deserves an explanation, and you are entitled to ask for one before work starts.
Parts pricing varies more than people expect because doors do. A 7-foot single-car door with a light steel panel needs different springs, drums and cables than a 16-foot insulated double, and high-cycle springs cost more than builder-grade because they are heavier-gauge steel rated for double the life.
Labour time is honest arithmetic. A cable off the drum with the door hanging crooked is a longer job than a straight roller swap, and a door that has been forced repeatedly since it broke often needs section or track work that would not have been necessary on day one.

Typical New Jersey Ranges
For planning purposes, these are the bands we see across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Union, Morris and Middlesex counties in 2026. They are ranges, not quotes, and the final number depends on your door's size, weight and hardware.
- Torsion spring pair replaced and balanced: mid-hundreds
- Lift cable replacement, both sides: low to mid-hundreds
- Roller replacement, full set of nylon: low hundreds
- Opener repair: gear kit or logic board, low to mid-hundreds
- New opener supplied and installed: mid-hundreds and up
- Off-track recovery and realignment: low to mid-hundreds
- Single panel or section replacement: mid-hundreds and up

What Pushes The Number Up
Door weight is the biggest driver. Insulated double doors and solid-wood carriage doors need heavier springs, stronger cables and sometimes reinforcement struts, and every one of those parts costs more than its lightweight equivalent.
Damage that compounds is the second. A cable that came off two weeks ago and has been forced daily since usually brings a bent bottom section, a scored drum and a gouged track with it. Calling on day one is materially cheaper than calling on day fourteen, which is not a sales line — it is just what our invoices show.
Access matters too. Low headroom, a car lift in the way, a jackshaft configuration or a door on a tight commercial-style rail all add time. Emergency overnight and holiday coverage carries a premium as well, because somebody is awake and driving to you at 3 a.m.

Repair Or Replace The Whole Door?
Repair usually wins when the panels are sound and only the hardware has aged, which describes most doors under twenty years old. Springs, cables, rollers, drums and openers are all wear parts on an otherwise good door, and replacing them costs a fraction of a new installation.
Replacement starts making sense when multiple sections are dented or delaminated, when the door is a single-panel tilt-up in a house that has moved on, or when you are chasing repeated failures on a door with no thermal value. Then the maths shifts, because a new insulated door adds curb appeal and cuts the heat loss through an attached garage.
We will tell you which side of that line you are on, and we quote both when it is genuinely close. Nobody at Ace earns more by selling you a door you did not need.

Quotes That Should Worry You
Be wary of a price quoted over the phone before anyone knows your door's size, weight or spring configuration — that number exists to get a truck in your driveway, and it usually triples on arrival. Be equally wary of anybody insisting on replacing only one spring of a pair, or refusing to give you a written total before starting.
Ace gives free estimates, itemised written pricing before work begins, and no charge for advice over the phone if your fix turns out to be a five-minute one. Call (888) 706-5757 and we will describe the likely range honestly, including when the honest answer is that we cannot know until we see it.
