Parts stay available for years
LiftMaster publishes part numbers and keeps them in circulation long after a model leaves the shelf. A homeowner with a 2011 chain drive can still get an OEM gear kit, which is not true of every brand on this page.
Open 24/7|24/7 Emergency Garage Door Service Across New Jersey

LiftMaster is the unit we open the most truck doors for in New Jersey, and the one our technicians know down to the individual gear kit.
LiftMaster is the professional-installer arm of the Chamberlain Group, which is why so many New Jersey builders hung one above the door when the house went up. The hardware is deliberately serviceable: gear kits, logic boards, trolleys, rails and safety sensors are all sold as individual parts, so a fifteen-year-old motor head is very often worth repairing rather than scrapping.
Ace Garage Door Service services every current LiftMaster family — the Elite belt drives, the durable chain units, the 8500 series wall mounts and the newer secure-view models with built-in cameras and battery backup. We carry LiftMaster gear kits, sensors, remotes and boards on the truck, which is why most LiftMaster calls in Bergen, Essex, Morris and Monmouth counties finish on the first visit.

The yellow-button Security+ 2.0 system re-codes on every press, so a captured signal is useless to anyone sitting outside your house. It also makes remote pairing quick when a car changes hands.
Most current LiftMaster units ship with myQ already on the board. There is no bridge to hide in the rafters and no extra device to lose power during a storm.
LiftMaster horsepower-equivalent ratings track real lifting capacity closely, so a 3/4 HP unit genuinely handles a heavy insulated double door rather than limping through it.
The single most common LiftMaster failure we attend is a stripped nylon drive gear inside the motor head. It announces itself with a motor that runs happily while the door stays still, and a scatter of white plastic shavings on the garage floor beneath the unit. The gear is a stocked part and the repair takes under an hour, but the underlying cause is nearly always a door that got heavy — tired springs made the opener do work it was never meant to do.
After gear kits, the list runs to safety sensor faults, capacitor failure on older AC heads, surge-damaged logic boards after summer storms, and trolleys that crack at the release lever. On wall-mount 8500 series units we also see cable tension monitor faults and deadbolt lock motors that stop retracting.
A LiftMaster installation starts with the door, not the box. We weigh and balance the door first, because mounting a new opener on a poorly balanced door guarantees a warranty call inside two years. Once the door lifts cleanly by hand, we set the rail, mount the header bracket into solid framing, hang the head from angle iron rather than perforated strap where the joists allow, and run the sensor wiring in clips instead of staples.
Commissioning includes travel and force limits set to the door's actual weight, safety reverse tested against a two-by-four laid flat, remotes and keypad coded, myQ paired to your phone, and a walkthrough of the emergency release before we leave.
We recommend replacing a LiftMaster rather than repairing it when the head predates 1993 rolling-code security, when the logic board and the gear kit have both failed, or when the cost of parts approaches half the price of a current unit with warranty. Anything newer than about 2005 with a single failed component is almost always worth the repair.
Replacement is a same-visit job in most New Jersey homes. The old head comes down, the rail is reused only if it matches the new unit exactly, and the old opener is taken away for recycling. Existing keypads and wall controls are replaced as part of the package because mixing generations causes intermittent faults that are miserable to chase later.
A yearly service on a LiftMaster is short and pays for itself. We re-tension the chain or inspect belt wear, grease the rail with white lithium, check gear condition through the cover, retest force and travel limits, clean and re-aim the photo eyes, and load-test the backup battery if one is fitted.
Backup batteries are the item homeowners forget. They last three to five years and fail silently, so the first sign is usually a dead door during a February outage. We test them at every visit and replace them on the spot.
Motor hums or runs but the door never moves
Stripped nylon drive gear, or the trolley is disconnected from the carriage.
Door closes then immediately reverses
Photo eye misalignment, a dirty lens, or down-force set too low for a heavy door.
Up arrow LED blinks and the door will not close
Broken sensor wire or a sensor knocked out of bracket alignment.
Remote works close to the door only
Weak receiver, antenna wire tucked up inside the head, or LED bulb interference.
myQ shows offline
WiFi signal too weak at the motor head, or the router changed bands after a firmware update.
Wall control dead while the remote works
Shorted low-voltage wire or a failed multi-function console.

FAQ
If the unit has rolling-code security (a yellow, purple or orange learn button) and only one component has failed, repair is almost always the better spend. We quote both options on site with the real part cost in front of you.
